Month 10 in Review

Wow! So it’s kind of crazy to think that it’s December and that I’m almost two months away from completing this daily flash fiction blog*. This last month of writing has been a bit spastic for the blog.

I participated in Nanowrimo, which caused the majority of my November word count to be sequestered away in a Word doc, in the draft folder of this blog, and a writing app… I know. I know. Don’t ask…

It was very different challenging myself on a word count for one cohesive story and for some reason I started to feel anxious about writing, which NEVER happens for my fiction writing. It was extremely strange. I made some decent headway on my novel, but didn’t hit the goal of 50,000 words, which wasn’t as upsetting as I had imagined it would be, and for my demeanor, that’s a very good thing. However, that was November and in no way justifies my lack of posting in December.

For December… well, I have no excuses, so onto the regular rundown:

Stories I like:

Stories I’d like to expand:

  • Obdurate-I’m pondering having the protagonist go on a quest of sort in the workplace, in order to bring down the evil queen and set all right within the kingdom–well, workplace–a classic good versus evil. This would be a short story.

Stories I’d like to submit:

What I observed this month:

The main revelation that landed on me this month was the degree of ease with which I can find myself not writing and falling out of the writing rhythm without complaining too much. Sure, the thought did occur to me that I hadn’t written anything during the end of November and beginning of December, but I felt so tired–I was doing some traveling cross country this month–that it was easy to dismiss this thought and head straight to bed.

I know. [*tisk, tisk*] Published authors probably don’t do those types of things.

Anyway, starting today, I’m renewing my desire (and discipline) to post daily so that I can get my routine back in full swing and finish strong.  I’m also hoping to submit more work to pro-paying markets, so we’ll see how that goes.

*This past month was not too “daily,” in terms of my posting.
